I think I am now really too sensitive to eat soy sauce with wheat. I thought it wouldn't bother me that much but it did. Ugh. (ETA: I usually buy wheat-free soy sauce but I was at a Japanese restaurant and just used what they had.)

On the plus side, I had yummy gluten-free pizza with a fluffy crust at Willow Street in San Jose tonight.

[livejournal.com profile] svava told me about this gluten-free flour that she heard about while at Pennsic:

I'm wondering when/if people will understand "gf" is short for gluten-free. It's a lot easier on my thumbs while texting.

Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lifecollage and [livejournal.com profile] rm for posting this link to a New York Times article on Celiac's Disease:

hmmm... gf whether lower case or caps reads as girlfriend... maybe try g-f?

I'm sorry about the soy sauce. :-(
I use La Choy. Both the regular and low sodium are gluten free.

I have heard amazing things about better batter flour, but I have yet to try it myself. I want it because apparently you can make a decent phyllo dough and the thought of baklava fills me with squeey joy. But I have watched my grandma make phyllo dough and it's difficult normally. I'm a little intimidated. Ok..a lot.

If I ever make to SF like I would like I hope you can show me all the yummy gf places you have found!

The problem is, it's also short for "girlfriend." You could have a gf GF!

I personally prefer San-J over La Choy. It's less...salty or something. It's a little harder to find, but Whole Foods usually stocks it.

I use the low sodium for that reason. I cannot wait for the whole foods to open!

I was out at a restaurant and used their soy sauce. Usually I get wheat-free tamari for home use. I was just not thinking and paid for it yesterday.

Hmm . . . making phyllo dough would be great! If we can make that, then I could probably make croissants too! Now I have a goal and will order a bag of better batter :)

LOL! Now I'll think of girlfriend when I see 'gf' on things at Trader Joe's :)

Ohh ok that makes sense. It also sucks! Poor tummy. Mmmm buttery baked goods.

Saw the NYT article this morning and thought of you!

Interesting that in other countries, diet help is something prescribed! Wow.

I tend to think gf=girlfriend and GF=gluten-free.

Yeah, the San-J Tamari is what I choose for soy sauce. Kari-Out little soy packets, while full of everything but soy and stuff, does not have wheat, at least.

Trader Joe's has a new GF pancake and waffle mix that doesn't have any sugar in it. I have a bag of it in my pantry... when I make something (when I have time, ha ha ha), I'll let you know how it is.

I'll definitely wanna hear about your results with the better batter.
