Careful friend-group maintenence can help with this a LOT. I nearly died with happiness when I realized that I could drop people off my default view without actually having to de-friend them.

Now how do I do that default view thing?
If you create a custom friends group named "Default View", visiting your standard Friends page will display only entries from members of the "Default View" group. To see entries from all of your friends, you would need to visit
