Just because I'm awake and sort of chipper. I went to LACMA at 5 am. I saw one person I knew who was leaving as I was arriving. The art was good - the Beyond Geometry exhibit was kinda hard on the eyes, especially with a looming migraine. But still, I was more inclined to think that simple shapes were brilliant at 5am.
There was one room that was all white with one wall with a big fluorescent light covered in plastic so it looked like the room was covered in fog. Brilliant. It made me want to curl up in the corner and go to sleep.
And a pepto bismol pink canvas with 2 slashes in it. It looked sort of like a vagina.
The other exhibit was scary. It was all about the caste system in Mexico in the 1700's. The paintings actually had the titles written on the canvas - like "From Spaniard and Albino, a Return-backwards" (Return-backwards meaning a black child). It was like a manual for racism.
Sadly, the tikki party part of the night was pretty much over when I got there. I enjoyed the last overnight party more I think because I had company (both my hubby and our roommate bailed on me this time). Also, last time was the first overnight party and they had no idea how many people would show up or how to run it so it was more genuine and new and not as commercial (you can get souvenir t-shirts now).
Plus I got all my east coast family calls out of the way, since it was too early for me but not so much for them. I think more sleep is in order now.
