I am experiencing a few hours of alone time accompanied by pasta and some of the left over grandma's secret recipe pasta sauce. It has been pretty crazy in our apt. this weekend with
merchimerch moving her stuff out (temporarily, until January) and S moving her stuff in (temporarily, until January). (Oh!
merchimerch: The Persian restaurant near our place is gone!!! It's a Vietnamese place that opened up 3 days ago. It's very good, but not the same.)
I escaped it all yesterday for a few hours and went to the Huntington Gardens for the first time ever. By the time we got there, it was an hour until closing time so L & L showed me around as quickly as they could. I don't think I've been to a garden as beautiful as that since I was in Paris. The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens are pretty too but just not as BIG! I'll have to go back to see the Zen Garden because it was closed by the time we got there. We were shooed out exactly at 4:30 because of a wedding that was happening at 5.
I wondered if it was J. Lo and Ben . . .
We also got to see an Edward Weston photography which was amazing as well as being air conditioned in the building. His still life photos are breathtaking. A pepper that looks like an arm flexing a bicep. A cabbage sprout that looks like a squirt from a tube of toothpaste. A lot of them you can hardly recognize until you look at the title.
Today I tried to play hostess and tour guide to our new roommate. We went to the Farmer's Market. On the walk there we discussed that our favorite cars are the new VW bugs and which colors we like. Lo and behold, we saw a black convertible bug with its key on the ground next to it. We opened the car and put the keys inside along with a flower. Karma, baby.
Look, it's the car I want and the key to it but it's not the right time or circumstances. :( Ok, so it wasn't silver Luckily, the car was still there when we passed it again on the way home. Anyone else could have taken it. I hope the owner didn't freak out too much when they couldn't find the key.
Also on the way home I saw a statue of Kwan Yin that was as tall as me in the book store of a yoga studio. I'm going to have to go back every once in a while just to say hi.
And now, on to the homework I haven't really done all weekend.
