I went to the launch party and was one of the last people to sign up for the drawing so I got one of the very last pieces of the map. There were quite a few people who kept saying, "I hope I don't get Bay Farm Island." It wasn't just me. One of the young ladies in the youth division who won two prizes last year got a section of Bay Farm again this year and said it was a curse. But I told her she made fabulous art last year and I was sure she would again this year.

I chose a piece of the map from the hat and it's a section of the island I don't know well at all. In fact, I had no idea there was a bird sanctuary on this island! The section I got is on the south shore - right next to, but thankfully not IN the south shore shopping plaza. (I met the lady that got the shopping plaza. She was NOT thrilled.)

Steve and Sofi and I went exploring, driving and walking around and checking out my area. There are a few lagoons in the section, the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary and some really ugly houses. I took three pictures with the tiny bit of light from the moon through the clouds tonight. I'm going out for sunrise tomorrow. Because of where this section is, I'll definitely be able to get views towards San Francisco for sunset and possibly views towards San Leandro Bay for sunrise.

Oh, and we met a guy on the walk who told us I could rent a canoe or a kayak from someone in Jack London Square and go out on the water to take pix if I wanted to. We'll see about that - but it's cool to know it exists.

This is gonna be fun :)
