Quick, name some of your favorite things to see/do in LA. I've got guests coming in a few hours and they'll be here for 2 days.

So far I'm thinking:
Venice Beach coz that's where I live.
Hollywood, coz well, ya gotta.
Maybe a drive up the PCH?

for a bit of surprise, take the Metro to Hollywood. It's easy and clean, but no one knows LA has one! Also sometimes it's easier to park+metro than get stuck in H'wood.

Downtown: Olvera Street, Phillipe's, parts of Chinatown, and the beautiful old Union Station are all in walking distance. I think it's also semi-close to the Disney Hall too.

the Getty!

PCH drive is good. I like eating at The Reel Inn (btw Sunset and Malibu), but anyplace is fun. If you want a scenic tour, take Flores Canyon. It's *very* windy, with little traffic except motorcycles. Some of the views remind me of near Hearst Castle -- a single mansionlet on a steep bluff overlooking a valley and the Pacific. It ends up on Mulholland, which looks straight and stately in comparison. Fun!

If you dont mind $ the restaurant overlooking the SM Pier, "The Lobster"?, is pretty good. Two mile walk, if y'all are up for exercise and/or peoplewatching. I've done that route a zillion times, especially around sunset, and it's always a joy...

seeya!

Cultural stuff! Thai town, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, etc. Llittle India is in Artesia, it's also neat.

Comic Book store, Melrose shopping (increasingly teh suck) and crap, too.

Keep thinking of these ideas. [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen and I will be in LA the second weekend in August.

And, needless to say, we'd love to see you....wait, that's Pennsic, isn't it? Are you guys going this year?

The La Brea Tar Pit museum. It's fun-cheesy, it's pretty cheap and I think it's super neat. It's also right next to LACMA if you need some extra culture afterwards.

The King Tut exhibit is still on: big fun. In that really, old Egyptian sort of way.

Ack, Pennsic starts Aug. 5th. Do y'all know what your plans are yet?

From: [identity profile] nisaa.livejournal.com

Yeah - Ajax will be gone by August 5th but I'll be around until the 11th or 12th. I have finals that week, so I can see you guys for a study break :)

Do you have a place to stay?? Do you want to crash with us?

From: [identity profile] lifecollage.livejournal.com

We were planning on activating the Strategic Crash Space Network for this one. ;^)

Is this feasible for you? We try to be remarakbly low-maintenance guests, and stay out of our hosts' way if necessary (for instance, for studying for finals).

We haven't finalized our itinerary yet, but we're probably spending 3 days in Portland, 4 in San Francisco and 3 in LA. I can email you more details within a day or two.

if you're going to the museum of jurassic technology, try to time it so you can hit the ahre krishna temple down the street for their community dinner...

are you looking for the tourist LA experience or the underground LA experience?

The Arboretum in Arcadia!

The rose garden at the (former) Museum of Science and Industry (it's the California Science Museum?)

I also second someone's Venice vote. And the 3rd St Promenade.

Melrose trading post on Sundays
all of the above mentioned places, perhaps the Hollywood Museum? Not the obvious, but the one in the Max Factor building on highland.
[livejournal.com profile] satyrix is the one to ask about all the coolest stuff in LA to do.
