Best thing about this morning: Praline bacon and challah french toast with my favorite chai. Yum!! And I didn't have to leave my house for it!

Worst thing about this morning: Discovering that there is a bin of moldy stuff in our garden, including some SCA garb and feast gear, that is SO bad that I might actually volunteer to go do laundry and see if anything is salvageable. Ugh.

Second worst thing: Still not adding me to your friends list.

*sadface*

But at least your breakfast sounds good!

wow - voluntary laundry - it must be bad. Hope the stuff is salvagable.

Challah french toast sounds so wonderful!

Uzbek bread really doesn't make good french toast, though I have made an effort. I think the yeast they use is quite different. It's funny the thing I find to miss even when I try to come prepared with lots of Uzbek baking products.

Oooh, chai. I might just have to make some. *ponder*

I am running back to the laundromat in a minute but I wanted to say that I just added you to my friends list. I plead pre-election anxiety and post-election depression for not adding you sooner. I meant to add you after meeting you on Monday. Sorry.

Praline bacon recipe

Yeah, you definitely must try it. If you don't like spicy food, omit the chili powder. I can't eat much of the batch I just made because I put too much cayenne in it :(

Here's the recipe:

Praline Pecan Bacon
1 slab of bacon (or any quantity you wish, really)
3 Tbl sugar (we prefer brown sugar)
1 1/2 Tbl chili powder
1/4 cup pecans, chopped fine

Preheat oven to 425°F.

On rack of a large broiling pan, arrange bacon slices in one layer and cook in middle of oven 10 minutes, or until just begins to turn golden. In a small bowl, mix together sugar and chili powder. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle bacon with sugar mixture and top with pecans. Return to oven and cook for as long as you desire (soft is flavorful but crispy bacon is like a candy treat).
