Wow, today I bear no resemblence to the shy little girl I used to be. I finally got off my butt and brought my camera down to the boardwalk to take photos of back tattoos. I think I got about 20 or so. I just went up to random strangers and asked if I could take a photo of their back tattoos. Most were flattered, some were reluctant and only one person said no (but he was very polite about it).
I saw a lot of pain and a lot of memories. "I can see the hate in your eyes" is what one guy had at the top of his back. Another had "Fuck Love" written on his back. Some had the names and dates of when loved ones passed away. They were not all great art, but they told stories.
I'm gonna definitely have to do this again. Maybe I'll go out there once a month with my camera. Soon I'll be able to start looking for publishers for the book. I think it will be simply called "Backart", because that's the name I've been kicking around and also because people asked me what it was going to be called, so they could look for it in a few years.
