1. Where are you camping?
W14 - La Familia Gladiatoria. Ours is the Greek temple on the lake at the bottom of Runestone Hill. You can't miss it. (I never get tired of saying that.)

2. When are you arriving?
Sunday the 8th around 5:30 at Pittsburgh Airport. Hopefully someone will pick me up . . .

3. What cool stuff are you doing?
My camp holds a Turkish and Greek Dessert Night on the Monday of War Week. I hear there'll be Turkish coffee, apricots with cream, dates filled with goat cheese and mascarpone, Turkish shortbread (gluten-free and otherwise) and stuffed grape leaves, just to name a few things. And we'll have performers of some kind. It's a very civilized party.

I also teach a Turkish Bath Class, open to Women-only. It's a medieval spa day. I am proud to say I make redheads every year.

If someone will let me, I'd love to go to Baroness Run Amok on Thursday night because there'll be some great women running amok. Even if I'm not a baroness.

4. What's your SCA name?
Nisaa Karahisari (well, actually it's a lot longer than that. Just call me Nisaa and I'll respond.)

Pennsic XXXVII

Following liamstliam's lead, this is what I look like at Pennsic (taken by [livejournal.com profile] liamstliam.) I will often have a camera with me. And the Uzbek hat is my favorite that I wear with most of my garb (well, except for chitons.)

There's this one too, taken by [livejournal.com profile] greenness:

FYI, I will not be teaching my Turkish Bath class this year at Pennsic. I'm taking a year off due to mundane life events but I will be at Pennsic. So if you don't find it in the course schedule, now you know why.

One of my Pennsic camp mates asked me for my Turkish dessert recipes since they're taking over dessert night this year. I found this gem with most of the recipes I needed to give her:

[cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] pennsic_war]:

I just registered my class and it is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday August 5th and Wednesday August 6th from 3-6pm. Both classes will meet at La Familia Gladiatoria's camp site. Ours is the hard to miss Greek temple on the lake. Here's the description:

Pennsic is our vacation, so why not pamper ourselves? Come learn about the history of the Turkish bath, try out some beauty treatments & sample Turkish desserts. The first section will be held in camp and the second at the classic swimming hole. Please bring a towel. For privacy, this is open to women & girls only.

Take a look at more of [livejournal.com profile] snowdryad's Pennsic pix - they're quite fab.

This is La Familia Gladiatoria's new temple. Caius designed it and led the crew of camp mates and neighbors that built it. This is how awesome our corner of Pennsic is. Our camp has a temple!!

Back in civilization at a hotel near Pittsburgh airport. Light switches. Flush toilets. tee hee.

Going to go bask in air conditioning, TV and dry bedding.

Pennsic was great despite the floods. More later. We'll be back in Alameda tomorrow afternoon.

If you met me at Pennsic and want to add me to your flist, now's your chance.

p.s. Meanwhile, I am stealing a link to [livejournal.com profile] lisaf's flickr page so y'all can see our new temple:

I had very little to do with building it, other than painting a little bit and going to get food for the guys while they built it. But, dood, our camp has a temple.

Since I'm up waiting for our guests to arrive, I thought I'd note that there are 70 days til Pennsic.

Which means, maybe 75 days until I see this (worksafe) view )

You may continue with your regularly scheduled day/night.

p.s. I'll need models for the next issue of our bathtub calendar. Any volunteers? It'll be a fundraiser for La Familia Gladiatoria's temple.
The Turkish Bath class at Pennsic this year will take place on Tuesday August 7th and Thursday August 9th from 3-6pm. Tues. class will be in La Familia Gladiatoria's camp. Thurs. class will be at the Classic Swimming hole.

Here's the rest of the description:
Pennsic is our vacation so why not pamper ourselves? Come learn about history and beauty treatments used in period Turkey and sample Turkish desserts. Please bring a towel.
